Nishad Kumar wins India’s seventh medal at Para Olympics

He became the youngest Para Athlete in history by earning back-to-back medals in the Paralympics Game . Nishad Kumar of India, who won the silver medal in the men’s T47 high jump competition on Sunday, will be the youngest athlete competing in the Paralympic Games.

 

Nishad Kumar’s path from a young child to a paralympic medalist

On October 3, 1999, Nishad was born in Una, Himachal Pradesh. He lost his right hand in a grass-cutting machine accident when he was only six years old.

Despite that life-changing event, he continued to play sports with unyielding dedication because his mother was a state-level volleyball player and discus thrower.

Similar to his mother, Nishad experimented with several sports before deciding on high jump. Before focusing on the javelin throw, he participated in sports like wrestling to start his athletic career.

In 2017, he began receiving professional coaching, and later that year, he made his debut on the international scene by capturing gold in the Asian Youth Para Games.
